Jake Winkler, Intern
Each of us is on our own path, learning at our own pace and in our own sequence. When we say therapy is non-judgmental, it’s because change is just lessons you haven’t learned yet. And there is no “correct” set of lessons–you decide which things you want to change. Therapy offers a travel companion, not a guide, because the path is never the same. Therapy can provide a second opinion, an informed perspective, and useful questions that reveal the answers, healing, and power you already have. Therapy is a collaborative alliance where we work on the things you want to work on.
I am a graduate student intern pursuing a Masters in Social Work and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker certificate at University of Kentucky. I use strengths-based and person-in-environment approaches. I’m interning under Alex Einsman. I’ve spent over 15 years in Madison in IT, consulting, and non-profit administration. My experiences in punk, counterculture, and non-conforming communities has taught me that many of our struggles are because the norms available to us don’t work for us. My experience as a performer and with table-top games has shown me the power of exploring possibilities. While it’s safer to be something that already is accepted, it’s more freeing to be what you want to be.
